Music Therapy Borneo provides music therapy services in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, supporting individuals of all ages, abilities and life stories. Since 2002, we have been serving the Kota Kinabalu community with a commitment to inclusive, person-centred care through the therapeutic use of music.
Our music therapists work with children, adolescents, adults and older adults across a wide range of needs and goals. While we support diverse populations, our particular areas of expertise include mental health and emotional wellbeing as well as early childhood development and paediatric music therapy
Sessions are available in individual and group, tailored to each person's goals and abilities. Our practice is grounded in many years of professional clinical experience and a deep commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive space where everyone can experience the healing potential of music

Preet is one of the pioneers of music therapy practice in Malaysia, with over two decades of clinical experience across the UK and Malaysia.She began practising as a music therapist in London in 1999, working within the NHS mental health system across intensive care, acute, rehabilitation, elderly and community settings.
In 2002, she returned to Kota Kinabalu, where she has since developed a diverse and established clinical practice serving children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
Preet’s early background includes work as a performer, piano teacher and community musician. Her work with individuals with disabilities and mental health needs led her to further clinical training in Child Psychology (UK), followed by specialist training in music therapy at Roehampton Institute, London and later a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Her clinical experience spans a wide range of presentations, including trauma, suicidality, self-harm, personality disorders, autism, ADHD, mental health conditions, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, addiction, hearing impairment, and palliative care. She has worked extensively with individuals experiencing complex and long-term psychological and emotional difficulties, as well as those in vulnerable and at-risk circumstances.
Preet integrates psychodynamic, humanistic, behavioural, and biopsychosocial approaches in her work, alongside additional training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Her practice is grounded in careful clinical assessment, ethical responsibility, and respect for each individual’s background, culture, and lived experience. She also holds a special interest in Indigenous worldviews and mental healthcare.
In addition to her clinical work, Preet serves as a clinical supervisor for music therapy students from UK universities

Counselling Psychologist
Doris is a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), registered counselor and counselling psychologist with a background in Music Therapy and Psychology. She holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and integrates music therapy with psychotherapy-informed practice to provide clinically grounded and person-centred care.
She obtained her board certification in 2016 and began her clinical work in the United States, working in medical and developmental settings before returning to Kota Kinabalu in 2018. Since then, she has been practising across hospital, educational and community settings, supporting individuals across the lifespan.
Doris has particular experience in mental health and emotional wellbeing. She works with individuals experiencing anxiety, emotional distress, relational difficulties, self-harm, and broader mental health concerns. She has experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including autistic children and provides parent support and guidance
Her training includes DIR Floortime Level 1 and Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT), allowing her to support both developmental and rehabilitation needs. She has worked in special education settings, nursing homes, and medical environments, including her current role as a visiting clinician at Jesselton Medical Centre, where she provides individual therapy.
Her therapeutic approach integrates humanistic, person-centred and existential principles with developmental (DIR/Floortime-informed) and biopsychosocial frameworks. Her work is grounded in the belief that individuals have inherent capacity for growth and change. She emphasises autonomy, dignity, and respect, working collaboratively to support each person within their unique personal and cultural context.
